Starting up "Kids Caring About Costumes" is easy to do! In addition to the steps below, here are some tips to get you started: 1.) Contact your local restaurants and/or costume retailers to see if they will donate clearance merchandise and free kids's meals for students who donate a costume and for students who come to shop for a free costume. 2.) Write grants to help offset the cost of buying storage bins, additional clearance merchandise after Halloween, garment racks, etc. 3.) Recruit people to help you set up the giveaway event so that each table or garment rack is sorted by size and gender to make it easier for families to shop. 4.) Keep track of the sizes and gender of the costumes that are taken so that you can keep your inventory properly stocked from year to year. 5.) HAVE FUN MAKING HALLOWEEN MAGICAL FOR CHILDREN! |
Step One:Send home a letter to each student before Halloween asking students to consider donating a new or gently used costume after Halloween.
Step Two:Designate a collection day or week and inform teachers of how your process of collecting the costumes will work.
Step Three:Buy plastic storage bins to store costumes by gender and size. Store the costumes until the following October. Send out an informational letter in early October for when and where students will be able to "Shop" for a free costume.
